Programming Usable Interfaces: Self Checkout Redesign
This redesigned grocery store self-checkout register interface simplifies the process of scanning and bagging items by representing the user's available actions in a familiar metaphor: a traffic light. The traffic light's state indicates whether items can be scanned or scanned items must be bagged. I refined the design through two rounds of user testing, once with a low-fidelity paper prototype and once with a high-fidelity prototype created in Adobe Flash.
